markets opened on a soft note - lower with Consumer Durables
The markets opened on a soft note and traded sideways for majority of the morning session. The markets slipped lower in the afternoon after news of S&P lowering it outlook on India ; however market recovered some of the losses before ending the day with modest losses. Majority of the sectoral indices ended lower with Consumer Durables and IT losing the most while FMCG & Auto gained marginally. Among the Sensex stocks Bharti Airtel (2.25%), Hero Motocorp (1.92%) and Sterlite (1.89%) were the gainers while Wipro (7.29%), GAIL (3.35%) and BHEL (2.32%) were the losers. The Sensex lost 56 points or 0.33% to close at 17,151 and the Nifty lost 21 points or 0.40% to close at 5,202.
Total traded turnover stood at Rs 211,415 cr. In equities FIIs were net of sellers (Rs 341 cr) while DIIs were net buyers (Rs 41 cr) .On the derivatives side, FIIs were net sellers in Index Futures (Rs 315 cr) while they were net buyers in Index Options (Rs 369 cr) , Stock Options( Rs 18 cr) and Stock Futures (Rs 219 cr).
The US markets ended higher amidst better than expected earnings from apple and FOMC comments indicating the possibility of further quantitative easing, if the US economy needed it . The Dow Jones gained 89 points or 0.69% to close at 13,091 while NASDAQ gained 68 points or 2.30% to close at 3,030.
The Asian markets are trading higher. Nikkei is trading higher by 0.12% while Hang Seng is trading higher by 0.60%.
