Daily BSE Morning Note - 14 December


The markets opened on a positive note and traded near the previous close till the afternoon session. The markets slipped lower in the late session and ended the day on a weak note. Among the sectoral indices buying was seen in Auto gained FMCG and Consumer Durables lost more than 2.5% each. In the Sensex stocks Tata Motors (3.96%), Jindal Steel (1.76%) & Bharti Airtel (1.54%) were the gainers while ITC (3.55%), Sterlite (3.27%) & Cipla (2.14%) were among the losers. The Sensex lost 126 points or 0.65% to close at 19,229 and the Nifty lost 37 points or 0.62% to close at 5,852.

Total traded turnover stood at Rs 184,496 cr. In equities FIIs were net buyers of (Rs 1,257 cr) while DIIs were net sellers of (Rs 666 cr). On the derivatives side, FIIs were net buyers in Index Futures (Rs 350 cr) Index Options (Rs 206 cr), Stock Futures (Rs 637 cr) and Stock Options (Rs 14 cr).

The US markets ended lower as concerns over delay in budget negotiations to avert the fiscal cliff overshadowed the positive economic data. The Dow Jones lost 74 points or 0.56% to close at 13,171 while the NASDAQ lost 22 points or 0.72% to close at 2,992.

The Asian markets are trading mixed. Nikkei is trading lower by 0.39% and Hang Seng is currently higher by 0.49%
