The markets opened on positive note but pared the initial gains in the first hour of trade.The markets however regained momentum and moved higher during the afternoon trade ending the day on a positive note. Majority of the sectoral indices ended in the green with Metals, Power & PSU gaining the most while Auto, FMCG & Realty ending with minor losses. In the Sensex stocks Jindal Steel (5.39%), BHEL (4.92%) and ONGC (4.44%) were the major gainers while HUL (1.72%), Tata Motors (1.44%) and Bajaj Auto (1.13%) were among the losers. The Sensex gained 169 points or 0.88% to close at 19,340 and the Nifty gained 55 points or 0.94% to close at 5,880.
Total traded turnover stood at Rs 165,296 cr. In equities FIIs were net buyers of (Rs 1,611 cr) while DIIs were net sellers of (Rs 799 cr). On the derivatives side, FIIs were net buyers in Index Futures (Rs 596 cr), Index Options (Rs 1,544 cr) while they were net sellers in Stock Futures (Rs 13 cr) and Stock Options (Rs 46 cr).
The US markets ended flat amidst impasse between political parties on ways to resolve the fiscal crises and lower than expected economic data. The Dow Jones gained 4 points or 0.03% to close at 13,026 and the NASDAQ lost 2 points or 0.06% to close at 3,010.
Asian markets are trading higher as Chinese official manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) rose to a 7-month high in November, while investors are cautious on a stagnant US budget talks. Indian indices are expected to open on a positive note and global developments along with progress in the winter session of the Parliament are expected to set the direction for the market.
The Asian markets are trading higher. Nikkei is trading higher by 0.78% and Hang Seng is currently trading higher by 0.38%.
